Letter: I cannot support any of the candidates – InForum

“Vote Democrat, no matter who” used to mean a vote for a “Democratic” candidate, which, properly interpreted, meant “democracy.” However, Democrats have started more foreign wars for other peoples and nations in the name of democracy than Republicans, costing millions of lives. Every Democratic U.S. president in recent history has justified his actions in the name of democracy. To be honest, I have been a Democrat my entire life, until now.

Now reality has set in. While Democratic President Joe Biden funded wars in Ukraine and Israel to “bring democracy,” we are losing democracy here at home in the United States. Biden is in freefall in the polls for the 2024 election, while his opponent, former President Donald Trump, who was convicted on 34 counts, has a comfortable lead. The Supreme Court recently ruled that a sitting president enjoys immunity from prosecution for official acts. (The Supreme Court has four justices selected by Trump.)

Trump openly declared in early 2024 that if re-elected he would be a dictator “from day one.” The Supreme Court has just given him that power. So while Biden continues to fund wars abroad, draining the US budget under the guise of bringing democracy elsewhere, and murdering families in Gaza and Ukraine, we are losing democracy – have already lost it – at home.

For this reason, I will not vote for the Democrats this November, nor will I vote for the likely winner, Trump. I cannot and will not support any of the candidates I would oppose on ethical and moral grounds.
