Martin Odegaard reveals why Arsenal lost to Manchester City in the battle for the Premier League title

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard says “minor differences” cost the Gunners the chance to dethrone Manchester City as Premier League champions last season.

Pep Guardiola’s team finished the season two points clear of their nearest rivals with a win over West Ham on the final day of the season. When asked what his team needs to do better next season, Odegaard said:

“There are small differences in football. It’s easy to just watch one game, but I think you have to look at the whole season.”

“We haven’t had the consistency to win and we have to earn it. We know we can improve, get better and that’s what we’re working on. We were so close but I’m sure we’ll come back even stronger now.”

City’s know-how in the final spurt was decisive

From 0:0 against arsenal at the Etihad on March 31st until the end of the season, Guardiola’s team did not drop a single point.

The Cityzens won nine games in a row, scoring 33 goals, and the players had no doubt that they would finish top of the table.

This winning mentality is difficult to replicate without having won multiple titles, which is why the reigning champions are the favourites going into next season.

What are the title chances for the 2024/25 Premier League season?

City are currently priced at 11/10 with most bookmakers. Although they are not among the favourites at the moment, the Manchester club are the leading contenders to defend their title.

Arsenal are slightly higher odds at 2/1, while Liverpool are third favourites at 7/1 to 8/1 and have a considerable lead. This means that many believe it will be a neck and neck for the third year in a row, but whether that will actually happen remains to be seen.
