WASHINGTON – The Washington softball team earned a big win Tuesday night, defeating Albia 3-2 in a ranked 3A showdown.

Albia struck first with a single run in the second inning. The Lady Dees maintained that lead for the next three innings, but the Demons had the last laugh.

In the second half of the sixth inning, Washington (23-11) put pressure on Albia (18-12). The Demons scored three runs, including a two-RBI single by Alyvia Anderson. Leighton Salazar, Ella Greiner and Isabella Salazar all scored in the sixth inning.

With a two-run lead, the Demons needed to limit Albia to just one run. And that’s exactly what they did. The Lady Dees scored a single run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but that was all they could manage.

Anderson led the Demons to the win with two hits and two RBIs. Leighton Salazar and Ella Greiner also had a hit each.

Isabella Salazar, Colbie Greiner and Halle Cuddeback were less than stellar in the circle. The trio allowed a total of five hits, two runs (two earned) and three strikeouts.

With the win, Washington improves its season record to 23-11. The Demons next face Midland in the first round of Class 3A Region 8.
