Without America, the world cannot be safe

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the United States and the world not to wait until November for the US presidential election, but to act decisively now.

According to a Ukrinform correspondent, the head of state said this in his speech at the Reagan Institute in Washington.

“The Americans are waiting for November. And Europe, the Middle East, the Indo-Pacific – the whole world is looking to November. And frankly – Putin is also waiting for November, but he is killing and destroying in order to prepare – to be ready for whatever November might bring,” Zelensky said.

According to him, “even the NATO anniversary summit, which was supposed to be a top event, is not getting as much media coverage as one would expect for November.”

It is time to “step out of the shadows, implement strong decisions, act and not wait for November or any other month,” said Zelensky. In his opinion, to this end, “we must be strong and uncompromising. All together. And above all, America.”

“And above all, the leaders of America and the President of the United States, as leaders of the free world, must be uncompromising in defending democracy, uncompromising against Putin and his entourage, uncompromising against any possible form of terrorism,” he said.

According to Zelensky, Ukrainians acted the same way when the all-out war began – just like millions of people around the world and millions of Americans, including Joe Biden and the US Congress.

“Then the world saw that Putin can lose and democracy can win – can win even when it seemed impossible,” he said.

Later, however, according to the head of state, “people began to think that it was better to hesitate than to act … and partial solutions were better than victory.” And “the impression arose that defending freedom was supposedly unsafe” and “it was supposedly unprofitable to put Putin in a position to blackmail the whole world.”

“Without America, the world cannot be safe. America cannot take a leadership role and realize global dreams without taking care of world affairs,” Zelensky said.

The US should not be afraid of its power, because it is America that preserves freedom in the world, he said. “That is why the world values America – America that acts,” Zelensky added.

“How much longer can Putin hold out? The answer to that question lies right here in Washington – your leadership, your actions, your decision – the decision to act now,” Zelensky said.

In these days, clear decisions are needed at the NATO summit, which must become a strong event, and “we are waiting for them and we are counting on them,” he said.

According to him, no one in the West has doubted the membership of European countries for 75 years: “But why is Moscow hoping for it now? And why does the statement ‘Ukraine is a NATO member’ not cause more fear in Moscow?”

Zelensky recalled that the world has been based on the principles of the territorial integrity of states and the inviolability of national borders for decades. “But will these principles continue to apply? We in Ukraine and all of Russia’s other neighbors, including those with whom America has entered into alliance commitments, need answers,” he said.

“Don’t wait months! America can be great every day,” Zelensky said.

The NATO summit will take place in Washington from July 9 to 11. The Ukrainian delegation will be led by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
