On the way to paradise: Men’s basketball will play at the Paradise Jam 2024

FARMVILLE, Virginia – After winning its second Big South title in three seasons, the Longwood men’s basketball team will compete in the 25th annual Big South Championship.th annual Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands from November 22nd to 25th.

The Lancers will face UAB on Friday, November 22nd at 1:30 p.m., opening the prestigious tournament with a meeting of two NCAA Tournament teams from last year.

The Paradise Jam has featured the elite of college basketball stars in its 25 years of existence, and Longwood can add its name to that list. Past champions of the multi-team event have included UConn, Baylor, Purdue, Maryland, Seton Hall, Kansas State, Colorado, Creighton and others.

This year, the Lancers are part of an eight-team field that includes three conference champions from last season and four teams that participated in either the NCAA Tournament or the NIT. All eight teams finished in the top 190 of the NCAA Net Rankings last season, and five teams were ranked in the top 150.

“We are very pleased to be invited to Paradise Jam – one of the most important non-conference tournaments in the country,” said Longwood’s head coach Griff Aldrich“This tournament not only provides our boys with the opportunity to compete against top-level competition, but also reinforces Longwood Basketball’s brand as a nationally recognized mid-major program.”

Longwood will seek the Paradise Jam title against Kansas State, Liberty, UAB, McNeese State, George Washington, Louisiana and Illinois State.

For the Lancers, it’s a continuation of the program’s explosive growth under Aldrich. Longwood has won at least 20 games in back-to-back seasons for the first time in team history, and the team’s 67 wins during that span are the most in a three-year period.

The team has won the Big South championship twice, and the Lancers are one of 24 mid-major teams to appear in the NCAA tournament multiple times during that span.
