Courtney Baker-Richardson: Newport County re-signs striker

Newport County have re-signed striker Courtney Baker-Richardson for two years.

Baker-Richardson, 28, returns to Rodney Parade after scoring eight goals in 31 appearances for the Exiles during the 2021-22 season.

The former Swansea City player scored 10 goals in 44 appearances for Newport’s League Two rivals Crewe Alexandra last season.

With his contract expiring this summer, he was offered a new deal at Crewe, but instead opted to become managerless Newport’s ninth off-season signing.

“I’ve obviously been to Newport before, so I know exactly what to expect here,” Baker-Richardson told Newport’s website.

“I know the club’s ambitions from my time here. For me it’s a homely environment and I know what I have to do to win over the fans.”

Baker-Richardson scored 19 goals in two seasons for Crewe, who he joined after leaving Newport.

He has also played for teams such as Barnet, Barrow and Accrington Stanley.

Baker-Richardson follows Michael Spellman, Matt Baker, Jacob Carney, Oliver Greaves, Kai Whitmore, Joe Thomas, Ciaran Brennan and Anthony Glennon, who join Newport this summer.

The signings came despite the fact that Newport have not yet named a successor to Graham Coughlan, who resigned as manager on June 20.
