Bubonic plague causes wine-soaked chaos

UPDATED with full trailer: After the first sensual teaser for New Order’s “Blue Monday”, Netflix has now released a full trailer for The Decamerona black comedy with Tony Hale, Zosia Mamet and Saoirse-Monica Jackson.

Set in 1348, when the Black Death is hitting the city of Florence, the film follows a handful of nobles who retreat to a large villa with their servants to wait out the plague with a lavish vacation. But when society’s rules no longer apply, a fight for survival begins, brought to life by a cast of characters who are both cunning and outrageous. The trailer, which you can watch above, offers a glimpse of what’s going on.

PREVIOUS, July 10: Ready for a wine-soaked sex evening in the Italian countryside? Netflix has set July 25 for the premiere of The DecameronNetflix’s soap opera from the time Teenage bounty hunter Creator Kathleen Jordan and Orange is the new black Creator Jenji Kohan.

Inspired by Giovanni Boccaccio’s 14th-century allegory, the series is set in 1348, when the Black Death is ravaging the city of Florence. It follows a handful of nobles who retreat to a large villa with their servants to wait out the plague with a lavish vacation. But when societal rules no longer apply, a fight for survival begins, brought to life by a cast of characters who are both cunning and outrageous.

The cast also includes Amar Chadha-Patel, Leila Farzad, Lou Gala, Karan Gill, Douggie McMeekin, Jessica Plummer and Tanya Reynolds.

The series was created by Jordan, who also serves as showrunner. She is an executive producer along with Kohan, Blake McCormick and Tara Herrmann for Tilted Productions. Michael Uppendahl (Fargo, American crime story) directs four of the eight episodes.
