Beef exports reach peak in May

(NAFB.com) – The value of U.S. beef exports exceeded $900 million in May, the highest since June 2023. According to data from the U.S. Meat Export Federation, U.S. beef exports in May totaled 110,133 tons, five percent lower than a year earlier but the second-largest volume in 2024. The value of beef exports reached $902.4 million in May, three percent higher than a year earlier and the highest in 11 months. Exports to Japan, Mexico, ASEAN, the Middle East, the Caribbean and Central America rose year-on-year. Beef exports from January to May followed a similar trend, rising five percent in value to $4.29 billion, despite a four percent decline in volume. Pork exports in May totaled 251,447 tons, four percent lower than a year earlier, and were valued at $715.8 million. That is two percent less than last year. Although deliveries to the leading market, Mexico, were below the previous year’s volume, they were still up in value, reaching 200 million US dollars.
