Tornos News | Cypriot President visits Athens to mark 50th anniversary of Turkish invasion

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides is visiting Athens to attend an event organized by the University of Athens on Wednesday evening to mark the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, ANA reports.

According to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), earlier in the day, President Christodoulides laid a wreath at the Memorial to the Fallen of Cyprus in the “Alsos Stratou” (Army Park) in Goudi. The ceremony was attended by the Chief of the Greek General Staff of National Defense, General Dimitrios Houpis. The ceremony included the laying of the wreath and the playing of the national anthem.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Cypriot President was scheduled to inaugurate a photo and multimedia exhibition about Famagusta by journalist Sotiris Danezis at the Melina Mercouri Cultural Center in Thissio.

The University of Athens event will take place at 19:00 on the university campus.
