Tornos News | 24-hour taxi strike in Athens on Thursday

Taxis in the greater Athens area have announced a 24-hour strike that will begin at 6:00 a.m. Thursday morning and end at 6:00 a.m. the next day. Taxi drivers and owners will also hold a protest rally at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the corner of Spyrou Patsi and Kavalas Road, ANA reports.
According to a statement by the SATA union, the strike was decided unanimously. The aim is to demand that the government immediately withdraw an amendment made by the Ministry of Tourism regarding the mutual control of drivers in tourist transport.
SATA sees the measure as an attack on the sector, which serves the interests of “oligopolies and multinationals”, and accuses the government of “not understanding the message that the sector and the Greek people sent on 9 June (in the European elections)” and of “continuing tirelessly to raze an entire sector to the ground in support of the cartels”.
