The Richardson Report

The Richardson Report

I’m sure many of you saw this strange new guy pop up on your screen during the sportscast. Well, let me formally introduce myself. Hello, great people of Arklamiss. My name is Zach Richardson and I’m the Sports Director for KTVE/KARD News. Let me tell you a little about myself. I’m from a small town called Louisiana, Missouri. I know – how ironic! I grew up and was immediately hooked on sports. In high school, I was a three-sport athlete, football, basketball and baseball, and was fortunate enough to continue playing football at the Division II level. When my playing career came to an end, I wasn’t quite ready to give up the sport. That’s where this job comes in.

This is my fifth year in the industry covering local sporting events and I can’t tell you how much I enjoy this job. I started my career in 2020 in Kirksville, Missouri as an MMJ/Sports Anchor and have spent the last three years working in Quincy, Illinois as an MMJ and weekend sports anchor. During my time in Quincy, I had the pleasure of working with the man who covered me when I was a player – someone I consider to be the GOAT of this job – Chris Duerr. I knew from a young age that this was what I wanted to do professionally. But over the last few years, I’ve really come to understand what local sports reporting is all about. It’s about more than just showing highlights of games and reading scores from the area. It’s about shining a spotlight on our young people – not just for what they do as athletes, but as students. After all, they are our future educators, doctors, engineers, etc. Telling their stories and getting to know them not just as athletes is the most rewarding part of this job.

It meant a lot to me that the local sportscasters put so much time into making us feel special when I was a player, and now my goal is to pass that on to the next generation. I was fortunate to join the phenomenal team of Jeremy Bryant, Ayanna Bronner and Jesse Davis – all of whom have a passion for shining a light on our youth. And this is just the beginning. Throughout the year, the KTVE/KARD sports team will bring you a variety of features on coaches and players, weekly Facebook Lives and much more, and we hope to have you all along for the journey.

The Richardson Report will be a weekly column appearing during football season, providing you with in-depth previews and analysis of all of our region’s teams.

The goal of this column is to get area sports fans talking and thinking about all things related to high school sports. This column has no bearing when it comes to college recruiting, conference, district or state awards, etc. It is simply the opinions of a guy who just loves to analyze sports. This is a fun, opinion-based column meant to be entertaining. Please enjoy it with that in mind.

Coaches, we would really appreciate it if you would send us your post-game stats to [email protected] or [email protected]. We really appreciate your cooperation.

This Missouri boy is excited to share stories and make new friends here in Northeast Louisiana. I’ve already met a lot of great coaches and community members and can’t wait to meet the rest of you. And don’t forget to follow me on social media on Twitter (X): @zrichtv and @KTVEKARDSports and on Facebook: Zach Richardson TV and KTVE 10 KARD 14 Sports for all the latest news.

In just a few weeks things will get serious again and we can hardly wait.

Until then – Yours sincerely,

-Zach Richardson
