Ian Ousley stars in short film “The Runner” (exclusive)

Avatar: The Last Airbender Star Ian Ousley has landed the lead role in The runner, A short film by music video director Tony Tacheny about a grieving man haunted by his past.

Ousley plays Everett, a man living in his van and struggling with the death of his wife Abigail, played by Preslea Elliott. Isolated from friends and family, Everett is haunted by memories of traveling the world in his van with his brother Cameron (Chasen Parker) and his late wife.

“The history of The runner “The film is about how we experience traumatic events in our lives. It is so relatable and I am grateful that Tony trusted me with Everett as the film is such a personal story for Tony. This was the most challenging role I have taken on to date,” Ousley said in a statement.

Tacheny, a music video director, directed The runner as an exploration of grief, memory and the difficult path to healing. “I believe men are conditioned not to talk about their pain and loneliness, but there is a lot of power in embracing vulnerability. I was amazed at the nuanced portrayals of these complicated characters that emerged from Ian and Chasen. They had a chemistry that only brothers can have,” the short film’s director said in a statement.

Ousley played Sokka, the leader of the Southern Water Tribe, in the Netflix series Avatar: The Last Airbender Live-action series, a reimagining of Nickelodeon’s original animated series. His other film credits include Netflix’s Dead girls don’t lie, by CBS Young SheldonAppleTV+ Physically and the indie series directed by Elizabeth Olsen I’m sorry for your loss.

Elliott played the role of Olivia in the short film Nurserieswhile Parker will appear in the upcoming season of Hulu’s Everyone is doing great. Tacheny has directed music videos for artists such as The Chainsmokers and will soon direct a full album of music videos and content for British pop star Gracey.
