City Council to discuss Everett port boundary expansion at July 11 meeting

On July 11, the Mountlake Terrace City Council is scheduled to receive a presentation on the Port of Everett.

The Everett Port Commission passed Resolution No. 1220 in December 2023, directing port staff to submit a proposal to the Snohomish County Council to expand the boundaries of the existing port district.

The measure, scheduled for the August 2024 primary, would expand the port district to include almost all of Snohomish County, excluding the city of Edmonds, the Port of Edmonds, the city of Woodway, Point Wells and Esperance.

Other items on the Mountlake Terrace City Council agenda on Thursday include review of the following:

– A resolution to apply for a grant from the Washington State Recreation Conservation Office for Evergreen Playfield No. 4 and No. 5. The RCO requires the applicant to fund the project with a local contribution not to exceed $1.2 million.

– A construction management and administration professional services contract with Exeltech Consulting, Inc. The City of Mountlake Terrace has been working to improve pedestrian access through Veterans Memorial Park to prepare it for the Link light rail. The project will create paved and lighted pathways, a new pedestrian bridge, and park frontage improvements. The total cost of the contract is $244,086.41 for inspection, coordination, administration, management, and testing services, including a $25,000 management reserve fund.

– A resolution for an intermunicipal agreement to accept grants from Snohomish County for HVAC improvements. The City of Mountlake Terrace received a grant from Snohomish County for improvements to the HVAC system at the Mickey Corso Clubhouse, which dates back to the 1990s. The condition of the grant is that the building be open to the public for a heating or cooling center.

The council meeting will begin at 7 p.m. on July 11 at the Mountlake Terrace City Hall, 23204 58th Ave. W., Mountlake Terrace.
