Press release from High Point Rockers

HIGH POINT, NC – High Point center fielder Ben Aklinski scored five runs on three hits to lead a 13-hit offense as the Rockers cruised to an 11-1 win over Lexington on Wednesday afternoon in Truist Point. Aklinski was one triple away from beating the cycle after hitting a solo home run, an RBI single and a three-run double.

The win allows the Rockers to win the series against the Legends, with the series finale scheduled to begin at 6:35 p.m. Thursday in Truist Point.

Aklinski wasn’t the Rockers’ only star hitter, as right fielder Gilberto Jimenez had three hits and scored two runs, and Quincy Latimore and Evan Edwards each scored two runs. Edwards hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning, while Latimore hit a two-run double in the fourth inning for the Rockers’ seven-run leadoff hit.

Rockers starter Neil Ramirez (W, 3-3) did his part, holding Lexington to four hits and a single run in his five innings with six strikeouts. Jacob Edwards and Garrett Schilling each threw one scoreless inning in relief. Rockers manager Jamie Keefe used freshman Sam Peddycord to close the game. Peddycord, an East Forsyth High graduate and former Greensboro College pitcher, made his professional debut with two outstanding innings, striking out all six opponents and recording two strikeouts.

The seven-run fourth inning decided the game for the Rockers, who had taken a 2-0 lead after three innings thanks to Aklinski’s home run in the first inning and his RBI single in the third. High Point hit five hits in the third against Lexington starter Luis De La Rosa (L, 1-2), who allowed three doubles and a triple and three walks in the inning.

The Rockers are now 3-1 in the second half and have a five-game lead over Southern Maryland and Lancaster in the Atlantic League wild card race.
