After Napoli’s turbulent 2023/24 season, it’s no surprise that some of the club’s best stars want to leave, including Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Football Transfers has spoken exclusively to his former coach Gela Davitadze.

After shining at Euro 2024, causing one of the biggest surprises of the tournament with Georgia’s 2-0 win over Portugal, Kvaratskhelia has attracted the attention of potential suitors.

The Napoli winger is considered one of the best in his position in European football and with Napoli not expected to play in the Champions League next season, the club faces a difficult task in keeping hold of him.

Although Napoli insist on retaining the services of the expressive winger, Davitadze, who coached Kvaratskhelia at Dinamo Batumi, believes the Georgian would be happy to leave the club this summer.

“I have great respect for Naples. But I think he wants to move,” Davitadze told Football transfers.

And the technical coach of Dinamo Batumi has recommended a move to the Premier League to his former protégé.

“In this situation, the best solution for him would be to move to the Premier League. A team like Manchester City or Arsenal would be very suitable. Apart from the Premier League, I think Barcelona would also be a suitable destination for him. But I want him to move to the Premier League and see him play against the best teams.”

It was speculated that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia would sign for Manchester City.

Davitadze called Manchester City the best possible solution for Kvaratskhelia, describing it as an ideal move for both the club and the player.

“Manchester City’s style suits Khvicha. City plays fantastic football under Pep Guardiola and I think Khvicha would be one of the best players at City. I know City have very good players in that position, like (Jack) Grealish and (Jeremy) Doku. I respect them, but I think he could be even better and do even more.”

Afterwards, the technical coach of Dinamo Batumi stated that, in his opinion, a player like Kvaratskhelia could have even led City to European glory last season.

“For example, if City had had Khvicha in the Champions League against Real Madrid, I think they could have beaten them because he has different dribbling skills and is not a one-dimensional player – and he can dribble against any opponent,” he said.

City can look back on a long tradition in this regard: fellow countryman Georgi Kinkladze was once a favourite at Maine Road.

“I think Khvicha would be the best solution for City. Georgi Kinkladze was a genius at Manchester City. Maybe one day Kvicha could follow in his footsteps and move to City,” he said.

Napoli wants to keep “Kvaradona”

Napoli have repeatedly stressed that they will not sell Kvaratskhelia, who has attracted interest from PSG in recent months.

The Serie A giants even want to offer him a new contract, but with Victor Osimhen’s situation at the club apparently at an impasse, they will have to be careful with the payroll.

If Kvaratskhelia actually leaves the club, the transfer fee would be well over 100 million euros, which would make him unaffordable for almost all clubs.
