Chickpea bread or Dhokla? Italian vlogger’s recipe sparks online debate

Bread is a go-to option for many on a busy day. From gluten-free bread to brown bread, there are a whole range of options available in the market. Now tell us if you have ever heard of chickpea bread or tried it? A food vlogger from Italy has just baked bread made from chickpeas, but the internet is comparing it to dhokla – the traditional Gujarati dish. The vlogger wrote in his caption, “If you are looking for a quick and healthy lunch, my super easy bread made with just canned chickpeas and an egg is just what you need! Did I tell you it is ready in just 5 minutes?”

In the video, the vlogger puts chickpeas, an egg and some flour in a blender to grind them into a paste. Then he heats it in the microwave for 4 minutes. After cooking, he cuts the bread in half to make burger buns, fills them with tomatoes, Italian prosciutto and some burrata cheese and suggests using ingredients of your choice. And there you have it, the chickpea bread burger is ready. “I always make this bread and make a sandwich out of it when I don’t have time to cook but still want to enjoy a nice meal! I usually make my sandwich with fresh arugula, tomatoes, prosciutto and burrata and always drizzle a good amount of olive oil on top,” he wrote in the caption. Watch the video here:

Soon, internet users flocked to the comment sections saying that it was dhokla and not chickpea bread.
“Sorry, this is dhokla,” wrote one user. Another wrote, “Dhokla goes to Italy.” Others liked the dish and wanted to try making it themselves. “No way this works! Great stuff, I’ll try it,” read one comment. One person agreed, “This recipe looks delicious, I’ll try it.”
