AEK coach pushes for signing of €8.5 million striker from Inter Milan

AEK Athens coach Matias Almeyda is pushing to sign disgraced Inter Milan striker Joaquin Correa this summer.

This is stated in today’s print edition of the Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, published by FCInterNews.

This was reported by the Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia via FCInterNews. Sky reports that Correa is an important target for AEK coach Matias Almeyda.

Correa is undoubtedly a player who is likely to leave Inter this summer.

The Argentine international was loaned to Marseille last summer.

The French had an option to buy as part of the loan. This would have become mandatory if they had qualified for the Champions League, but they did not manage to do so.

And considering that Correa barely played for Marseille and neither scored nor assisted a goal for the club, it is hardly surprising that they did not decide to sign the striker permanently.

This means that Correa has returned to Inter this summer, but the Nerazzurri certainly do not consider the former Lazio, Sampdoria and Sevilla striker as part of their plans for next season.

In addition, Correa’s contract with Inter is currently set to expire at the end of June next year.

Inter will therefore do everything in its power to sell the Argentinean permanently instead of loaning him out again.

AEK coach Matias Almeyda supports Inter outsider Joaquin Correa

There were some reports of interest in Correa this summer.

These included the newly promoted Serie A club Como and the Turkish duo Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.

Meanwhile, Argentine giants River Plate are reportedly considering targeting Correa.

However, the financial problems associated with a deal would make things difficult for River.

Then Correa would have the possibility of moving to the Saudi Pro League.

The teams in the Saudi Arabian top league show no great hesitation in spending a lot of money on well-known players from European leagues, even if they are in poor form.

But Correa could have a lifeline in the form of the Greek club AEK.

According to Corriere, the Greek club’s coach, former Inter midfielder Matias Almeyda, is a big fan of Correa.

Therefore, the newspaper assumes that AEK will push for Correa’s signing in the coming days.

Inter want to sell Correa to avoid a capital loss or at least to recoup some of it. The Nerazzurri would have to sell the Argentine for around 8.5 million euros to avoid a capital loss.
