Ellen DeGeneres declared that she will say goodbye to Hollywood once her “final” comedy special hits theaters this year, after being embroiled in controversy over her “toxic behavior” over the years.

During a recent stand-up show in Santa Rosa, California (via People Magazine), the veteran comedian and host was asked if she would return to show business full-time two years after her talk show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” was canceled when staff members accused her of “bad behavior.”

“No. This is the last time you’ll see me. I’m done after my Netflix special,” she explained.

As Forbes reported on July 10, following her statement, DeGeneres canceled a number of her upcoming tour dates without giving any reasons.

The 66-year-old stand-up comedian also briefly recalled the controversies she has faced in recent years and hinted that she will address those allegations in her upcoming comedy special on Netflix.

“I want to tell you what’s happened to me since we last met. I have chickens. Oh, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean,” she said.

“I can be demanding, impatient and tough. I am a strong woman. I am many things, but I am not mean,” emphasized the actress and presenter.

DeGeneres noted that she would soon be thrown out of the business because she was “old.”

“I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me.’ Now I realise I said that at the height of my popularity. Next time I’ll be kicked out because I’m old. Old, gay and mean – the triple crown,” she said.

In 2020, employees of the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” publicly commented on how the award-winning talk show host “mistreated employees and fostered a toxic work environment.”

DeGeneres addressed the company culture at the time and apologized to the employees affected. Three executives from the show were fired.
