Peoria City selected to host USL League Two playoffs

PEORIA, Illinois — After securing a playoff spot for the second time in three years, Peoria’s semi-pro soccer team must now stay at home in its quest for the championship.

USL League Two on Thursday selected Peoria City to host a series of Central Conference playoff games on opening weekend next week.

A total of three games will be played. Two quarterfinal games will take place on July 19, with Peoria City playing the night game at 7:30 p.m. The first game will be played at 3:30 p.m.

The winners of Friday’s games will play against each other in the conference semifinals on July 21 at 1:30 p.m.

The hosts of the first two rounds of matches will be selected based on the results of the first round.

Peoria City President Jim DeRose said the organization is “excited” to host playoff games.

“This is an incredible honor coming in just our third year as a club in a league with such great tradition and history as USL League Two. We would also like to thank the USL League Two leadership for selecting Peoria City as our host and we will work hard to provide fans and players with an unforgettable and exciting atmosphere,” said DeRose.

The Carp secured a playoff spot last Saturday after a 2-2 tie with the Des Moines Menace. Both Peoria and Des Moines will represent the Heartland Division in the playoffs.

Peoria City last secured a playoff spot in 2022, the team’s first season of play. The run was short-lived after a first-round loss to Chicago FC United.

Tickets for each day are on sale now. Peoria City says all three games will be streamed via Clutch Sports Media.
